The Inner Purple Homepage

Welcome to this brand-spankin' new homepage!! Since you're probably wondering what in the world Inner Purple really is, then I will waste very little time in telling you. However, first take a look at the pic of my "baby" below.

Yes, it's the Korg X3...what a great piece of equipment!!

Anyway, Inner Purple is a musical concept, band, or whatever label you feel comfortable with. It has been adopted, adapted, and improved over the years ever since the purchase of my first "real" keyboard (Korg M1) in 1992. God gave me the gift of music as a child, but it took me a long time before I had any direction or practical application of it. Since 1984 (Christmas) I had been toying around on cheesy little keyboards, developing ideas for songs, doing minor sequencing or "layer" recording, singing in competitions, etc. However, in 1992, Inner Purple was born...

The line-up, style, and names have changed several times since 1992, but that was a refining process that Inner Purple had to go through. Although unique in nature, the music can likely be compared to known artists Tangerine Dream, Enigma, and possibly Ray Lynch. In some form or fashion, they've all unknowingly contributed to my overall makeup as a developing musician. However, I won't claim to have been overly influenced by any of those particular artists. Inner Purple's music captures the beauty of life, God's creation, simple emotions, and weaves them into sound.

Now, to take a short break from text, here's a few pics of my first keyboards and mini studios (cheesy set-ups, I know)!!

The summer of 1986 was an experimental time on my Casio 310. I set up my first mini studio for some cheesy recordings. However, for an amateur, it was a blast!!

My first Christmas away from home was well-spent as I toyed around on a Casio MT-540 keyboard that I bought in Okinawa, Japan. It allowed for only one, very limited sequencing track, but it helped me develop more composing skills (besides, it had some cool sound effects as well as MIDI in/out capabilities)!!

Sure enough, this is the first professional quality keyboard I owned - the Korg M1. This synth opened up a whole new world of sequencing capabilities, programs, and overall sound parameters, but I soon felt hindered by only eight tracks to record with. Plus, I hadn't yet figured out what quantizing was, so my material was good in several ways, but not quite what I considered "perfect".

Sure, I had no clue what I was doing in those days, but at least I was slowly moving in the right direction. Besides, I had to get started somewhere, right?
